Razorbacks Finish 12th in Spring Opener
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Arkansas shot a final round 305 and finished 12th at The Hayt Invitational, played at Sawgrass Country Club (par 72, 6,966 yards). Individually, Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira carded an even-par round Tuesday to finish tied for sixth and recorded his first top 10 of the 2022-23 season.
Vanderbilt took home the team and individual titles. The Commodores finished with a team score of 836 (-28) to defeat host and runner-up North Florida by 16 strokes. Gordon Sargent, the top-ranked collegiate golfer by Golfstat, was individual medalist, shooting 70-64-67 for a 15-under score of 201,
Fernandez de Oliveira, who won the Latin America Amateur Championship last month, continued his strong play with two rounds of even par golf and a 4-under-par 68 to tie for sixth (212). He finished the 54 holes with 40 pars, which was the third-best total in the field.
Manuel Lozada tied for 46th (73-73-78=224 / +8) and Christian Castillo tied for 63rd (78-72-78=228 / +12). Castillo did record 14 birdies over the three rounds, which was the fourth-best total in the field. Wil Gibson, playing as an individual, finished 67th (71-75-84=230 / +14) and Segundo Oliva Pinto tied for 70th (77-78-77=232 / +16).
Arkansas was short-handed in the final round as Julian Perico withdrew due to an injury.
Up next, Arkansas travels to Mobile, Ala., to play in South Alabama’s Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Feb. 13-14.
