Razorbacks Finish Day 1 Strong at Spring Season Opener
HUMACAO, Puerto Rico – John Driscoll III finished with a birdie and Matthis Lefevre closed with an eagle as the #8 Arkansas men’s golf program finished round one of the spring opener – the Palmas del Mar Collegiate – with a 7-under-par score of 281 to stand one stroke off the lead.
Kennesaw State leads the 16-team field with an opening-round 280 while UNC Greensboro and Michigan are four strokes behind the Razorbacks to stand in a tie for third. Arkansas led the field by playing the par 4’s at even and was second-best in the field by playing the par 5’s at -12.
Four Razorbacks are inside the top 15 after day one.
Driscoll, who started on the par-2, second hole, birdies four of his first seven holes. However, bogies on holes 9, 12 and 15 dropped the graduate senior to 1-under. He bounced back with a birdie on 16 and closed his round with a birdie on the par-4, first hole for a 3-under round of 69 to tie for sixth.
Lefevre, playing his first event in the Razorback lineup, closed with an eagle on the par-5, third hole. Prior to his eagle, the junior offset two bogeys with two birdies to finish with a 2-under round of 70 to tie for ninth.
Jacob Skov Olesen and John Daly II are tied for 14th, each carding a 1-under-par 71 in round one. Olesen birdied holes 16 and 17 to get to 1-under and Daly, who led the team with 14 pars, posted his 71 thanks, in part, to his eagle on the par-5, third hole.
Manuel Lozada, playing as an individual, is tied for 39th at +1 (72) and Christian Castillo is tied for 51st after an opening-round 74 (+2).
Round two of three in the Palmas del Mar Collegiate is set for Monday.
