
Razorbacks Finish Day One on the Plain
AUBURN, Ala.- The Arkansas women’s tennis team completed the first day of the Marliss Gruver Memorial Tournament Friday afternoon.
In doubles play, Lauren Alter and Thea Rice fell 8-5 to Malika Ngounoue and Plobrung Plipuech of Kansas while Martina Zerulo and Shwetha Prabakar defeated Annabella Bowen and Lindsay Song of Auburn.
Zerulo fell 6-1, 6-0 to Sophia Graver of Auburn and will face No. 2 seed Sabina Machalova of Ole Miss in the back draw tomorrow. Prabakar also fell, with No. 2 seeded Yuna Ito of Miami (Fla.) earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Rice defeated No. 1 seed Alexa Bortles of Ole Miss 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (7) in Flight 3, and will face Kiana Motosono of Oklahoma in the semifinal round. Alter fell to Daniella Roldan of Miami (Fla.) 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(8) in Flight 2, and will face No. 2 seed Isolde De Jong of Ole Miss in the back draw tomorrow.
The Hogs will continue play tomorrow afternoon in both doubles and singles matches.
