Razorbacks Finish 8th The Prestige
LA QUINTA, Calif. – Arkansas once again showed improvement, shooting a final-round 288 which was the fifth-best round of the day, and the 25th-ranked Razorbacks climbed three spots to finish eighth with a 54-hole score of 883 at The Prestige, played at the par-71, 7,100-yard Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST.
LSU, ranked 18th, held on to its 36-hole lead to win the 15-team event with a total of 838. Top-ranked Oklahoma State was second (844), followed by #14 Pepperdine (857), #44 UCLA (866) and #42 Oregon (869).
Julian Perico was the Razorbacks’ top finisher for the event. The freshman had a 54-hole score of 218 (76-70-720) and tied for 19th, marking his third top 20 finish this season. Perico played the par 4’s at 1-under for the event and his 38 pars over three rounds were the second-best total in the field.
Tyson Reeder, who carded his team-best fourth eagle of the season Wednesday, led the Razorbacks in the final round. The junior jumped 20 spots up the leaderboard after shooting a season-low 69 in the final round. He finished in a tie for 45th with a score of 233 (75-79-69). Reeder opened the day with a par before posting a birdie and eagle on his second and third holes. Over his next 12 holes, Reeder had 10 pars, a bogey and birdie to stay at 3-under-par. He would drop a shot on his 15th and 16th holes but birdied his 17th hole to finish with his 2-under 69.
William Buhl, who climbed 17 spots up the leaderboard, shot an even-par 71 Wednesday and finished in a tie for 33rd with a three-day score of 221 (74-76-71). Buhl, ranked 89th nationally, birdied his first two holes and finished with 14 pars and two bogeys.
Mason Overstreet, ranked 70th nationally, had 10 a team-best 10 birdies during The Prestige and finished tied for 39th with a score of 222 (75-71-76). Luis Garza wrapped up the Razorback quintet y tying for 75th with a score of 235 (80-78-77).
The 15-team field featured 14 programs ranked among the GolfStat.com top 100 and the University of Stirling, one of the top golf programs in the United Kingdom.
Arkansas returns to action Mar. 3-5 as the Razorbacks and Houston Cougars co-host the annual Querencia Cabo Collegiate, played at the Querencia Golf Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
