
Razorbacks Head on the Road to No. 1 Georgia, No. 21 South Carolina
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (4-10, 1-6) travels east to continue SEC play against No. 1 Georgia (14-1, 7-0) on Friday, March 21 at 5 p.m. and the No. 21 Gamecocks (9-6, 4-3) on Sunday, March 23 at 12 p.m.
The Razorbacks dropped two matches last weekend, falling to No. 8 Tennessee and No. 68 Kentucky at home. In the match against Tennessee, Olga Bienzobas and Carolina Gomez cruised to a 6-3 win over Elza Tomase and Maeve Thornton. The victory for Bienzobas/C. Gomez marked their seventh of the season, winning three straight in SEC play. Grace O’Donnell grabbed the only point for the Hogs against the Lady Vols after a 7-6 (3), 7-5 victory against Vanesa Suarez.
Arkansas grabbed the doubles point against Kentucky, getting wins from Bienzobas and C. Gomez, as well as Anet Koskel and O’Donnell. Bienzobas won a three-set thriller against No. 66 Julia Zhu, earning her first ranked victory of the season. Koskel earned a straight-set win over Tess Bucher, gaining her seventh singles victory of the season.
The No. 1 Bulldogs have opened the season 14-1 and 7-0 in SEC play, defeating LSU and Ole Miss on the road last weekend. Georgia is led by senior No. 1 Dasha Vidmanova and junior No. 55 Anastasiia Lopata at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. The singles lineup also features No. 52 Aysegul Mert and No. 100 Guillermina Grant. The duo of No. 10 Mell Reasco and Vidmanova has achieved an 8-1 record in the top spot to lead the Bulldogs in doubles play.
No. 21 South Carolina is off to a 9-6 start this spring and are 4-3 in SEC play after wins over Auburn and Ole Miss. Senior No. 23 Sarah Hamner, Sophomore No. 93 Kaitlyn Carnicella and Senior No. 113 Misa Malkin head the Gamecock lineup and are a combined 19-12 on the season. The tandem of No. 26 Hamner and Carnicella have gained three victories this season.
