Razorbacks Head To Michigan For ITA Kickoff Weekend

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (2-0) travels north to face Purdue (3-0) on Friday at the ITA Kickoff Weekend as part of a four-team regional hosted by Michigan. The Hogs will take on the Boilermakers at 12 p.m. CT at the Varsity Tennis Center and either No. 5 Michigan (1-1) or Utah (3-0) on Saturday.

Arkansas and Purdue have previously matched up against each other six times with the Boilermakers leading the series 4-2.

The winners of Friday’s matches will clash on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT, vying for a spot at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash., from Feb. 9-12 at the University of Washington. The championship match will be played prior to the consolation match at 5:30 p.m. CT.

The Razorbacks are off to a 2-0 start this spring with two sweeps over Bradley in their doubleheader last Saturday. The Hogs have carried over their dominating doubles performances from last season, convincingly taking the doubles point in both matches. Graduate Kelly Keller claimed the first singles point in the first match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory while going 2-0 at the No. 1 position. The senior duo of Morgan Cross and Indianna Spink impressed in their season debut, grabbing two wins in the top spot of the doubles lineup.

Purdue is off to a perfect start this spring as well, defeating Ball State, Miami (OH), and Xavier. The Boilermakers are led by senior Csilla Fodor and sophomore No. 113 Carmen Gallardo Guevara, who both have three singles wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Sophomore Kennedy Gibbs has also secured three singles wins at the No. 3 position for Purdue. The tandem of Fodor and Gibbs are 2-0 in doubles at the No. 1 position while Gallardo Guevara and junior Tara Katarina Milic also hold a 2-0 record on court two.

No. 5 Michigan opened its season in the Sooner State, falling to then-No. 5 Oklahoma State and defeating No. 13 Oklahoma. The Wolverines’ singles lineup consists of four ranked players in No. 10 Kari Miller, No. 39 Julia Fliegner, No. 47 Lily Jones, and No. 82 Gala Mesochoritou. Miller and Jaedan Brown combine to form the No. 8-ranked doubles pair and are currently 2-0 at the No. 1 position this spring.

Utah has started the season 3-0, earning sweeps over Montana State, Utah Tech, and Idaho State. Marcela Lopez and Kaila Barksdale lead the Utes with three singles wins each at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Lopez and Ana Luiza Cruz have started the year 3-0 on court one in doubles play.
