Razorbacks Improve at Folds of Honor Collegiate

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – The 17th-ranked Arkansas men’s golf program had one of the better rounds on Tuesday, firing a 1-over-par 285, and moved up into a tie for ninth at the Folds of Honor Collegiate. Razorback senior Matthis Lefevre played a key role in the team performance with his 4-under 67, which tied for the second-best round for the day.

The third and final round is set for Wednesday. The men will play the afternoon wave with live GOLF Channel coverage from 3:30 to 6:30 pm (CT).

Day one team leader, #16 Alabama, still leads after two days with a 36-hole score of 563 (-5), but its lead was trimmed from 11 shots to one as #9 Illinois carded the best round on Tuesday with a 6-under 270 and had a score of 564 (-4). The Crimson Tide and Fighting Illini are the only two schools under par after 36 holes. Alabama’s Dominic Clemons leads the individual race with a 7-under 135 (69-66).

Lefevre birdied five of seven holes during one stretch en route to his 67, tying his best round as a Razorback. Overall. He improved by 10 shots over his round one score and rocketed 32 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 17th with a 2-over, 36-hole score of 144 (77-67). As he did in round one, Lefevre bogeyed the par-4, 2nd hole. However, he began his string of birdies on the par-3, 4th. After a par, he birdies holes 6, 7 and 8 to make the turn at 3-under. He opened the inward nine with a birdie and offset bogeys on holes 14 and 17 with birdies on holes 15 and 18 to post his 4-under round of 67.

Freshman Gerardo Gomez posted a 2-over 73 for the second straight day and is tied for 23rd with a 4-over 146. Thomas Curry improved by one stroke and one position to T37th on day two with a 74. He was 4-over through six holes then finished his round with 11 pars and a birdie.

Erich Fortlage improved 10 spots and Mark Stockdale jumped 16 spots on the leaderboard after round two. Fortlage is tied for 41st (72-72=150 / +8) and Stockdale is tied for 44th (79-73=152 / +10).
