Razorbacks Improve in Rd2 at Austin Regional
AUSTIN, Texas – The 8th-ranked Arkansas men’s golf program fired a 1-under-par 283, moved up one spot to eighth and trimmed its deficit toward the cutline after round two of the NCAA Austin Regional, played at the University of Texas Golf Club (par 71). Individually, Razorback Jacob Skov Olesen is tied for sixth thanks to his second consecutive round of 69.
The third and final round is set for Wednesday with the top five teams, plus the top individual not among the top five, after 54 holes advancing to the NCAA Championship.
Arkansas made a charge on the back nine as Matthis Lefevre was 3-under and Olesen was 1-under. Thomas Curry was also 1-under on the back nine but the team did not count his over score of +3.
Olesen is 4-under after 36 holes (69-69=138). He is three strokes behind leader Michael Brennan of Wake Forest (67-68=135 / -7). The graduate senior had a stead second round to post his 69. After a bogey on the par-4, 4th hole, Olesen was bogey-free the rest of the way with birdies on holes 8, 9 and 14.
Curry is tied for 25th (69-74=143 / +1). He was four over through eight holes Tuesday but offset a bogey with two birdies on his inward nine.
Lefevre was the big mover for the Razorbacks on Tuesday. He climbed 15 spots into a tie for 45th (76-70=146 / +4). He was 2-over on his front nine but led the charge for Arkansas in the afternoon with his 3-under-par 33 on the back nine with birdies on holes 11, 15 and 17.
Christian Castillo jumped four spots into a tie for 50th (75-72=147 / +5). Alternate Manuel Lozada was subbed in for John Driscoll III for round two. Lozada carded a 1-over 72.
NOTES:
•Arkansas continues to lead the field on the par 3’s at 1-over – two strokes better than second.
• Arkansas is playing the par 5’s at -13, the third-best total in the field.
• Olesen is second in the field by playing the par 5’s at -5 and tied for the lead by playing the par 3’s at -1.
• Curry is playing the par 5’s at -4 and Castillo is playing the par 3’s at even.
