Razorbacks Place 6th at Lewis Chitengwa Memorial

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Mark Stockdale shot a 1-under-par 70 on Tuesday to help Arkansas move up and finish sixth with a 12-over total of 864 at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial, played at the par-71 University of Virginia’s Birdwood Golf Course. John Daly II led Arkansas for the event and tallied his second-straight top-10 finish of the season.

On a day when the team scoring average was 15.3 strokes over par due to strong wind with gusts over 40 mph, the Razorbacks were +9 (293) to turn in the third-best round of the day. Only Virginia (+3) and Liberty (+8) were better, while Clemson tied Arkansas at +9 on Tuesday.

#11 Florida State held on to win the team title. The Seminoles were -27 after 36 holes yesterday but turned in a 14-over round of 298 Tuesday to finish at -13 (835). Host and #13 Virginia finished second at -8 to join the Seminoles as the only teams under par. Northwestern was third at even, followed by Liberty (+6), Clemson (+8) and Arkansas (+12).

Daly, who won his last event, tied for 8th with an even-par 213 (73-66-74) for his third top 10 of the season and fifth of his career. He was fourth in the field with 38 pars over 54 holes and tied for fourth by playing the par 4s at even par for the tournament. Daly, who started on hole 10, birdied the par-5 12th but dropped a shot on holes 2, 4 and 7 to post his final-round 74.

Erich Fortlage ranked eighth in the field with 12 birdies, including two in the final round, and tied for 23rd (68-73-75=216 / +3).

Thomas Curry and Gerardo Gomez tie for 39th with a 7-over total of 220. Curry, one of the few in the field to record an eagle at the event, shot 75 on Tuesday. Gomez was +4 after nine holes but played the back nine at 1-under to shoot 74 in the final round and move up four spots.

Stockdale climbed 21 spots up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 45th with his 1-under round of 70. He offset a double bogey and a bogey with two birdies on each nine to be 1 of 3 golfers to finish under par.

Pablo Garcia Terol tied for 53rd with a 13-over 226 (71-78-77).
