Razorbacks Prepare for SEC Tournament

ATHENS, Ga. – The Arkansas Men’s Tennis team (14-13, 3-9) is headed to Athens, Georgia, for the 2022 SEC Tournament this week. The 11th-seeded Hogs are pitted against No. 21 and sixth-seeded Texas A&M (21-12, 7-5) in the first round on Thursday.

The Razorbacks and Aggies met earlier this year on March 4 in Arkansas’ first SEC match of the season. A road match for the Hogs in College Station, Arkansas stuck with A&M for all seven points before falling in a tight one, 4-3. The two teams are set to face off on neutral ground Thursday at host Georgia’s courts.

The Aggies are led by No. 37-ranked Noah Schachter, who is 17-21 on the year at A&M’s top singles position. Schachter is also ranked in two different doubles pairings: No. 14 with Kenner Taylor and No. 46 with Austin Abbrat.

Arkansas senior Alex Reco and Schachter battled it out earlier this spring on the top court, with Reco prevailing in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(4).

The Hogs were rewarded for a hard-fought weekend on the road last weekend in the newest edition of the ITA National Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point, released on Wednesday. Senior Alex Reco jumped to No. 26 in the singles rankings, his highest mark of the season. Reco and fellow senior Nico Rousset also cracked the doubles rankings for the first time this season, coming in at No. 83.

Sophomore Aleksa Bucan, who has been ranked in singles the entire season, came in at No. 107.

First serve for Thursday’s match between Arkansas and A&M is set for 10 a.m. CT.
