Razorbacks Start Big SEC Homestand This Weekend
Arkansas volleyball returns to Barnhill Arena this weekend for the first two of a stretch of four ranked SEC matches, against No. 9 Texas and No. 12 Texas A&M.
Friday will be just the fifth meeting between the Longhorns and Hogs and only the second time in Fayetteville. Texas’ only losses this season have been to top 15 teams and nine of their 12 opponents have been ranked. The Longhorns are currently 7-5, 3-1 in conference play. The Longhorn offense is currently putting up top-half SEC numbers in assists/set (12.40, 7th) and kills/set (13.20, 8th).
The defending national champion Aggies have only dropped six matches so far, all but one to top 20 teams. TAMU was undefeated in SEC play until Wednesday, when they fell 3-2 to the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, the Aggies’ only three set losses in all conference matches. While Arkansas is on the losing end of the all-time series, it’s knotted at 5-5 in Fayetteville dating back to 2012. The Aggies are holding opponents to the third-lowest hitting percentage in the SEC, .173.
Arkansas is currently 8-6 on the season and looking for its first SEC win after 3-1 and 3-2 losses on the road at Georgia and South Carolina last weekend.
Friday’s match is set for 7 p.m. at Barnhill Arena and will be streamed live via SEC Network+. Sunday’s 12 p.m. showdown is Arkansas’ first linear match of the season, on SEC Network. John Roethlisberger (PxP) and Kele Eveland (analyst) will be on the call.
Tickets for both matches are available online, by phone, or in person via Razorback Ticket Center. Friday is Love Island Night with free Razorback Villa water bottles for the first 500 fans, and Sunday is the team’s Alumni Match, with throwback Razorback Volleyball windbreakers as a giveaway fo the first 500 in attendance.
