Razorbacks Swept by Tigers on Sunday

The Razorbacks’ road struggles continued on Sunday afternoon as Arkansas was swept by LSU, the team’s second loss in as many matches.

The Hogs are now 16-9 overall and 6-7 in the SEC with three matches remaining in the regular season slate.

Sania Petties and Aniya Madkin both had seven kills in the match for Arkansas, and Romani Thurman had six. Hannah Hogue posted 20 assists in the match, and Courntey Jackson had a team-high six digs.

Set 1

The match started close as the Hogs gave three points to the Tigers off service errors and LSU managed to take the lead with an ace at 6-5. Arkansas played close, but the Tigers strung together a 4-0 run that put them up 13-8 and sent the Hogs to a huddle. LSU continued to dominate the tempo and led 19-9 with back-to-back aces. Arkansas could do little to stop the bleeding and the Tigers cruised to a 25-15 set one win to go up 1-0 in the match.

Set 2

LSU kept the pressure on from the service line and opened the second set with a pair of aces in a 5-0 run that put the Tigers ahead early. The Razorbacks just couldn’t find a way to get more than one point at a time and found themselves trailing 15-9 at the media timeout. The Tigers showed no signs of slowing down and went up by 10. Arkansas got two more, but LSU ended the set on a 3-0 run for the 25-14 advantage and a 2-0 lead.

Set 3

The Hogs started with an early 3-2 lead off a kill from Lily Dudley, but LSU got four straight to reclaim the advantage at 6-3. Arkansas came within two with an ace from Hannah Hogue, but the Tigers hit 10 first right after. The Razorbacks couldn’t get out of their own way or generate any momentum and fell behind 17-9, prompting a timeout. Something clicked from there as the Hogs crawled back a bit and cut the deficit to five, but there was no time for a serious comeback and LSU kept on pushing to a 25-17 set victory and match sweep.

Up Next

The Hogs have another pair of road matches next week at Tennessee and Kentucky. They take on the Vols in Knoxville on Nov. 22 at 5:30 p.m. and the Wildcats in Lexington on Nov. 24 at 3 p.m.
