Razorbacks Win Doubles, Claim Two Runner-Up Finishes in Final Day of ITA Regionals

LINCOLN, Neb. – Monday marked the fifth and final day of the ITA Central Regional Championships in Lincoln, and Arkansas represented three of the four players/teams competing in championship matches. 

Melvin Manuel and Adrien Burdet took on fellow Hogs Oscar Pinto Sansano and Riccardo Trione in the doubles final, and the Arkansas teammates pushed each other to three sets, with Melvin/Burdet prevailing in the third-set tiebreaker, 10-7. Manuel and Burdet clinched a spot in the fall ITA Championships with the win.

Sophomore Aleksa Bucan took out three ranked opponents on his way to the singles final, and with his berth in the championship match, he booked his spot in the ITA Championships. 

Bucan fell in the final to Oklahoma’s Jordan Hasson, 7-6(5), 6-4.

The Razorbacks walk out of Lincoln with 33 wins in addition to the two second-place finishes and one title.

Singles Results:

No. 6 Jordan Hasson (OU) def. Aleksa Bucan (ARK), 7-6(5), 6-4

Bucan and Melvin/Burdet will head to San Diego to compete in the fall ITA Championships on Nov. 4-7. Arkansas is set to host its second ITF tournament of the fall starting Nov. 1 at the Billingsley Tennis Center.
