Romani Thurman Tabbed SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week
As she continues to lead the No. 25 Volley Hogs this season, sophomore outside hitter Romani Thurman was named SEC Co-Offensive Player for Week 3, the conference announced Monday.
Thurman, a Little Rock, Ark. native, amassed 38 total kills in the Razorbacks’ two matches in the Tulsa Invitational over the weekend. She tallied 24 of those in Arkansas’ five-set loss to Tulsa on Thursday, a new personal best and the most for any Razorback so far this season.
Romani didn’t hit below .300 in either match, with a weekend high of .393 in the team’s sweep of Stephen F. Austin on Friday. She also had two blocks apiece in each contest, including one solo stuff against SFA. Her efforts garnered her All-Tournament Team honors, along with senior setter Hannah Hogue.
Thurman has been a standout for the Hogs in her first season at Arkansas as a six-rotation outside. She currently leads the team in kills per set at 4.09, which is good for sixth in the conference and in the top 50 nationally. Thurman also leads Arkansas’ pins in hitting percentage at .322 and has the second-most blocks on the team with 29. She is one of just three players to start every match for the Hogs through three weeks of play.
Romani and the Razorbacks close out non-conference play this weekend at the Miami 305 Challenge in Miami, Fla. The Hogs take on the host Hurricanes on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m., Florida International on Friday at 4 p.m. and Texas Tech on Saturday at 11 a.m. The first two matches will be streamed on ACCNX and ESPN+, respectively, with live stats available for all three via StatBroadcast.
