In his first season at Arkansas, Smillie emerged as a key contributor in doubles for the Hogs. Smillie concluded the year with a 15-14 overall doubles record and a 10-6 overall singles record. Smillie ended the season tied for the team lead in doubles victories with Jared Horwood and primary partner Jake Sweeney. Smillie opened his freshman campaign with a run to the quarterfinals of the doubles draw with Sweeney at the ITA Central Regional Championships. Smillie won seven of his first eight doubles matches heading into conference play, including a six-match winning streak with five victories coming alongside Sweeney on court three. The duo secured the doubles point for the Hogs in matches against Washington, Drake and Tennessee Tech. At the beginning of SEC contests, Smillie and Sweeney began competing at the No. 2 position, picking up wins in Arkansas’ matches against No. 28 Alabama and No. 12 Mississippi State in addition to clinching the doubles point over No. 25 Auburn. Smillie earned his 12th doubles victory of the spring after teaming up with Karlo Kajin to defeat Papoe/Paquette (Cornell) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Smillie appeared in the singles lineup for the Razorbacks in seven matches, registering a perfect 6-0 record and clinched wins for the Hogs in matches against Mississippi Valley State and Lindenwood.
