Planelles Ripoll opened his sophomore campaign with a run to the qualifying draw at the ITA All-American Championships in the fall. Planelles Ripoll won his first four matches in the prequalifying draw to advance and finished 5-1 overall for the event while collecting his first ranked victory of the season over No. 119 Cox (Vanderbilt) in the consolation draw. Planelles Ripoll led the Razorbacks in singles wins for the second consecutive season, registering a 21-14 overall record. Planelles Ripoll started the dual season with a 4-2 singles record after clinching Arkansas’ road victory against Nebraska. Planelles Ripoll recorded six wins in SEC matches, including a four-match winning streak in April with victories over Stoupe (LSU), No. 30 Roddick (Texas A&M), Grear (Rice) and No. 125 Kim (Florida). As a result, Planelles Ripoll was named SEC Player of the Week on April 10 and secured the final point for the Hogs in back-to-back matches against No. 51 Rice and No. 25 Florida. Planelles Ripoll picked up his final ranked win of the year after a straight-set victory over No. 68 Colby (Georgia) in the second round of the SEC Tournament. In doubles, Planelles Ripoll closed the season with a 4-4 overall record. Planelles Ripoll and Jakob Mosvold earned the doubles point for the Razorbacks in the win over Lamar while Planelles Ripoll helped the Hogs take the doubles point in matches against Hawai’i and Seattle with partners Alan Sau Franco and Connor Smillie. At the conclusion of the season, Planelles Ripoll received All-SEC Second Team honors and was ranked No. 96 in the final ITA singles rankings.
As a Freshman (2022-23)
Singles Record: 15-9 dual // 3-7 SEC
Doubles Record: 6-3 dual // 0-0 SEC
In his rookie season, Planelles Ripoll led the team in singles wins with 15 through the dual season. Headed into conference play, Gerard won seven straight singles matches to start the season 12-1. In the win over Washington, Planelles Ripoll clinched the fifth straight victory for the Razorbacks.
Prior to Arkansas
Gerard comes to Arkansas from Alicante, Spain and has a career-high singles ranking of No. 1217 and is currently ranked No. 176 in the ITF Junior Rankings. In 2022, Planelles Ripoll has competed in 11 professional tournaments across Spain. He last competed at the ITF 15K Melilla, Spain where he fell in the Round of 32.
