Scottie Vines claims high jump silver at USATF Championships
NEW YORK CITY – Arkansas sophomore Scottie Vines matched his outdoor best of 7 feet, 5 inches (2.26) to claim a silver medal in the high jump at the USATF Championships held at Icahn Stadium on Friday evening.
The last Razorback to finish second in the USATF Outdoor high jump while in college was Kenny Evans in 2000.
A clearance of 7-6 (2.29) for Tyus Wilson, the 2025 USATF winner while at Nebraska, earned the victory as he and Vines both attempted 7-7.25 (2.32) to determine the winner. Shelby McEwen, who won the 2024 USATF title, finished third at 7-2.5 (2.20) while JuVaughn Harrison, the 2023 winner, tied for fourth with Kason O’Riley at 7-1.5 (2.17).
In defeating two previous USATF champions, Vines matched his outdoor career best he set in winning the 2026 Mt. SAC Relays title. That height ranks him No. 7 on the UA all-time outdoor list. Vines cleared 7-6 indoors as a Razorback freshman in 2025.
The series for Vines included first attempt makes at 7-1.5 and 7-2.5. A miss at 7-3.75 (2.23) had Vines passing to 7-5, where he made the height on his first try while Wilson needed three attempts. A first attempt make by Wilson at 7-6 had Vines passing the height.
Then both jumpers missed three attempts each at 7-7.25. The UA outdoor record is 7-6.25 (2.30) shared by five Razorbacks.
Marcus Weaver scored 7,770 points to place fourth in the decathlon as he finished behind Garrett Scantlin (8,526), Kyle Garland (8.431), and Hakim Morris (8,312). Weaver moved from ninth place after a day one score of 3,896.
A trio of Arkansas alums reached the final of the women’s 400m. Sanaria Butler led the crew with a 51.10 that ranked second overall in the prelims behind a 50.53 for Aaliyah Butler. A 51.46 for Paris Peoples ranked third best overall while Britton Wilson claimed the last spot in the final with a 52.12.
In the men’s 400m, alum Chris Bailey posted a time of 45.14 from lane 2 to win his prelim heat and rank second overall to a 44.65 by Khaleb McRae.
A time of 45.64 was the final time qualifier to the 400m final. Razorback senior TJ Tomlyanovich ran 45.71 to place 11th overall with nine advancing to the final.
The 100m semifinal had Jada Mowatt clocking 11.39 in the women’s race while the men’s race included Lance Lang running 10.12w and Tevijon Williams at 10.35w.
