Scottie Vines earns SEC Freshman of the Week honor
FAYETTEVILLE – Scottie Vines indoor high jump debut produced a 7 foot, 3 inch (2.21) victory and earned the Colorado native a SEC Freshman of the Week honor.
The 6-5 Vines led a 1-2 finish for Arkansas in the Razorback Invitational as sophomore teammate Joshua Blakely set an indoor best of 7-1.75 (2.18) as runner-up.
Vines ranks equal No. 3 among collegians this indoor season and is the top freshman. The next best freshman mark is 7-1.75 (2.18). On the world list for 2025, Vines is currently tied for 13th and equal fifth among Americans.
The current collegiate leading mark is 7-4.25 (2.24) by Nebraska’s Tyus Wilson with a 7-3.25 (2.22) by Oklahoma’s Kyren Washington second best. Vines shares the No. 3 position with Iowa State’s Braden Goeliner.
In claiming a victory in his first appearance as a Razorback, Vines opened at 6-10.75 (2.10) and also cleared heights of 7-0.5 (2.15) and 7-1.75 (2.18) on the way to his winning height of 7-3. Then Vines attempted to clear a collegiate-leading 7-4.5 (2.25).
Vines sports an outdoor best of 7-4.5 (2.25) that claimed the 2024 World U20 Championship title this past summer in Lima, Peru. He is from De Beque, Colorado, which has a population under 500.
