Six Razorbacks Set to Open Fall Season in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team opens the fall season this week with six Razorbacks competing in the PTT 25K Fayetteville. The tournament will take place from September 18-24 at the Billingsley Tennis Center.
The 20 player main draw will consist of 4 groups of 5 players each. The round-robin group stages will run from Monday to Friday. The playoff rounds will be single elimination and consist of five draws of 4 players depending on the player’s group finishing (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th) and will run from Saturday to Sunday. The six players competing for Arkansas are split across three of the four groups.
Group B will kick off with a matchup between two Hogs as senior Indianna Spink will face Minnesota transfer Anet Koskel in Round 1 of the group stage on Monday. Spink is coming off a nine-win campaign last dual season, including eight victories combined in the No. 2 and 3 positions. Koskel joins the squad after one season with the Golden Gophers, where she recorded four singles wins and consistently played at the top position as a freshman.
Group C also features two Razorbacks with junior Grace O’Donnell and senior Morgan Cross. O’Donnell is slated to play her first match against Emily Gelber on Monday. O’Donnell won one singles match this past season and went 11-6 in doubles play with Lenka Stara in the No. 2 position for Arkansas. Cross was a mainstay in both lineups for the Hogs and had a successful spring season where she went 15-4 in singles play and 12-4 in doubles play alongside Spink. Cross will face Adesuwa Osabuohien in Round 1 of the group stage.
Lenka Stara and newcomer Katie Ferguson headline Group D as Stara and Ferguson face off in Round 1 on Monday. Stara was an important part of the Arkansas lineup in the spring, playing on courts three, four, and five. She ended the year with nine wins in singles play, with four coming at the No. 4 position. Ferguson joins the Hogs after spending last year at Cincinnati. The Missouri native compiled a 10-9 overall record in singles play, including nine wins in the No. 6 position for the Bearcats.
