Soccer Blanks Auburn, Wins 1-0

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas (4-4-2) improved to 2-1-1 in SEC play after a 1-0 win over Auburn (6-2-3, 2-2-0 SEC) on Sunday afternoon at Razorback Field.

Freshman forward Lauren Van Rhein scored the match’s only goal in the 20th minute. After receiving a ball from just outside the 18-yard box from midfielder Cora Hair, Van Rhein passed it back to midfielder Aniyah Nurse-Whyte, whose shot was deflected toward Van Rhein, now just outside the six-yard box. Van Rhein fired into the lower right corner as Auburn goalkeeper Ayana Yapo dove left.

The Hogs controlled the tempo for most of the match and 67% of their possession came on Auburn’s half.

Auburn’s best chance came in the final 10 seconds when defender Jordyn Crosby ripped a shot just over the crossbar.

Arkansas outshot the Tigers 11-8 and forced Yapo to make four saves. Goalkeeper Keegan Smith made four saves and recorded her first solo shutout of the season.

• Keegan Smith picked up her 15th career shutout, which ranks fifth all-time at Arkansas.
• Aniyah Nurse-Whyte recorded her second assist of the season and first since Aug. 30 against Little Rock.

• Auburn entered Sunday’s match with eight shutouts and just two goals allowed through its first 10 games.
