Soccer wins spring opener against Iowa, 2-0

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – The Razorback soccer team opened the 2020 spring slate of matches with a 2-0 shutout win over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday afternoon at the Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex. Arkansas earned the win with two goals coming from Anna Podojil and Brooke Pirkle in the first and second periods. The two squads played three 30-minute periods.

How It Happened

>> Third-minute, first period | Podojil picked up a loose ball in the Hawkeye half and was able to knock it over the Iowa goalie for the earlier 1-0 lead.

>> 26th-minute, second period | Ashton Gordon sent a deep free kick to the back post and Pirkle outjumped her Hawkeye defender, heading it over the Iowa ‘keeper to put the Hogs up 2-0.

“For a first spring game it was good. Iowa is a good team and will give us some good film on areas we need to improve. We scored two goals and created some more chances. Our defending in the box was good and we got a shutout. It was a good start.”
