Steven McElroy shines in 400m at John McDonnell Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE – Razorback Steven McElroy produced a season best 400m time of 45.95 to finish runner-up at the John McDonnell Invitational as he moved to No. 11 on the UA all-time list.

Earlier in the meet McElroy ran third leg of the 4 x 100m relay as Arkansas set a meet record of 39.06 with a foursome that included Lance Lang, Connor Washington, and James Benson II.

The previous meet record of 39.28 was set by Arkansas in 2017. Finishing behind the Razorbacks were Indian Hills CC (39.61) and Central Arkansas (39.71).

McElroy placed second in the 400m to a 45.79 for Dakarai Bush of Harding with the meet record of 45.38 set in 2008 by Andretti Bain of Oral Roberts on offer. McElroy just missed the No. 10 position on the UA all-time list where Marek Niit has a time of 45.91 from 2012.

Racing into a -1.2 wind in the 110m hurdles, Phillip Lemonious claimed the victory in 13.89 over a pair of Razorbacks in Brevin Sims (13.984) and William Spencer (13.987) who were second and third in 13.99.

Spencer doubled back to win the 400m hurdles in 51.22 with Grant Williams finishing fourth with a 52.51. Tevijon Williams placed third in the 100m at 10.46 (1.4 wind) and added a fourth in the 200m with a 20.83w (2.1 wind).

Jack Williams produced a 9:20.69 victory in the 3,000m steeplechase. Ethan Carney led the Razorback effort in the 800m with a 1:51.11 for seventh.
