Taylor Head Earns First SEC Weekly Award

FAYETTEVILLE – Freshman Taylor Head has without a doubt been a crucial part of the Arkansas Razorbacks’ success this fall and after back-to-back double-doubles in this weekend’s sweep of Ole Miss, Head was named the SEC Freshman of the Week. Head’s award is the first of her rookie campaign and first for the Razorbacks this season.

An outside hitter from Winter Garden, Fla., Head averaged 4.21 points, 3.71 kills and 3.14 digs per set and owned a .397 hitting percentage in the two victories over Ole Miss this past weekend. Head tallied 15 kills and 10 digs in the first match and followed that with 11 kills and 12 digs to post her fourth consecutive double-double. She also added three aces and one block assist to help lead the Razorbacks to their first 4-0 start in conference play since 2003.

Head stands as the only SEC player with four double-doubles through just as many matches and is second among SEC freshmen in total digs and first in total kills. She ranks fifth and ninth among Division I freshmen in those respective categories.

She battled alongside her Razorback teammates this past weekend as Arkansas post it’s best hitting performance of the season, boasting a .386 hitting percentage in Sunday’s sweep of the Rebels. Head’s contribution was an impressive error-free performance and .423 hitting percentage.

Arkansas hits the road this week with a quick turnaround for a mid-week match up at No.9 Missouri on Wednesday (Nov. 4) and Thursday (Nov. 5). Those matches will be aired on ESPNU and the SEC Network respectively.
