Three Razorbacks Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomores Božo Barun, Benedikt Emesz, and Gerard Planelles Ripoll were named to the 2024 Academic All-District Men’s Tennis Team as selected by College Sports Communications on Tuesday.
Barun and Planelles Ripoll were also selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members CSC Academic All-America® finalists. The honor recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
Barun, a native of Split, Croatia, maintained a 3.8 GPA and is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Communications. Barun played at the top of Arkansas’ singles and doubles lineups, producing a 9-12 singles record this dual season on courts one and two along with four ranked wins at the No. 1 position in doubles play. Barun is ranked No. 112 in the latest ITA singles rankings in addition to being ranked No. 30 with Jared Horwood in the ITA doubles rankings.
As a sophomore, Emesz maintained a 3.791 GPA and is currently working towards his bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management. Emesz amassed records of 13-9 in singles and 2-1 in doubles throughout the 2024 season. Emesz primarily played on court five in singles for the Razorbacks while competing at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions in doubles with partners Horwood and Alan Sau Franco.
During his sophomore campaign, Planelles Ripoll maintained a 3.667 GPA and was named to the All-SEC Second Team after posting a 14-11 record in singles play this spring with three victories over ranked opponents. Planelles Ripoll also received SEC Player of the Week honors after leading the Hogs to three straight ranked wins on the road in April. Planelles Ripoll competed primarily on courts one and two in singles play for Arkansas. Planelles Ripoll also collected three doubles victories in 2024 and is ranked No. 93 in the recent ITA singles rankings.
First-, second- & third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 5.
