Three Razorbacks Win on Final Day in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Six members of the Arkansas men’s tennis team concluded their week at the PTT 25K Fayetteville today with Gerard Planelles Ripoll, Benedikt Emesz, and Connor Smillie winning their final matches of the tournament.
Two Razorbacks faced off in the Finals of the 2nd place playoffs as Planelles Ripoll defeated Stefanos Savva 7-6 (5), 6-2. Planelles Ripoll totaled five wins on the week while Savva grabbed three wins in the event.
Emesz picked up a victory in the 3rd place playoffs with a straight-set win over David Stevenson. Emesz finished the tournament on a three-match winning streak.
Smillie ended the weekend with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Volodymyr Zakharov in the Finals of the 5th place playoffs. Smillie’s win marked his second consecutive victory of the event.
After an impressive week at the PTT 25K Fayetteville, Melvin Manuel fell in the Finals of the 1st place playoffs to Pierce Rollins in straight sets. Manuel concluded the tournament with five wins of his own.
In the 4th place playoffs, Foster Rogers dropped his match against Timothy Carlsson Seger. Rogers closed out the week with two wins in his first action of the fall season.
The Hogs will have less than a week off before sending multiple members of the squad to Tulsa, Okla., for the ITA All-American Championships, running from September 30-October 8.
