Wayne Pinnock claims SEC Field Athlete of the Week honor
BIRMINGHAM – A world-leading performance to open his 2024 season merited the SEC Field Athlete of the Week accolade for Arkansas junior Wayne Pinnock, who set an indoor career best of 27-4.5 (8.34) to win the long jump in Albuquerque.
Improving his previous best by half an inch, Pinnock moved into the world leading position for the indoor season. He remains at No. 10 on the collegiate all-time list as well as the No. 3 Jamaican and No. 4 on the UA all-time list.
Last year Pinnock jumped twice in Albuquerque. He made his Razorback debut in the 2023 New Mexico Collegiate Classic with a 26-7 (8.10) victory. Then he improved to a then career best of 27-4 (8.33) in placing fourth at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships held at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Following a foul on his first attempt in the 2024 New Mexico Collegiate Classic, Pinnock produced the winning leap in the second round and completed his day with a 26-4.25 (8.03) that would have also claimed the win.
On the same weekend, Arkansas alum Carey McLeod competed in Boston at the New Balance Grand Prix and produced a long jump victory with a mark of 26-11 (8.20). McLeod swept the 2023 NCAA Indoor & Outdoor long jump titles as a senior with the Razorbacks.
Pinnock and McLeod currently rank first and second on the 2024 long jump world list.
