No. 4 Women's Golf Finishes Fourth at the Cougar Classic
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Arkansas women’s golf team finished 1-under par and in fourth place at the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club (Par 71) in Charleston, South Carolina on Tuesday.
The Hogs were led by sophomore Sara Brentcheneff, who set a couple of career marks with her lowest round, a 67 in the third round, and her highest finish at T2.
Senior Maria Jose Marin finished at T9 (-2), her 26th top 10 finish as a Razorback.
Round 1
Arkansas got off to a slow start on Monday morning, partly due to windy and rainy conditions in the Charleston area. The Hogs teed off in a shotgun start from holes 9-11 and were 4-over after the first nine. Preseason All-American duo Maria Jose Marin and Brentcheneff rallied to finish the second nine under par, with Brentcheneff birdying four of her last eight holes.
Brentcheneff was the only Razorback to finish under par with a 68. Marin shot an even 71. Swetha Sathish, Natalie Blonien and Ebba Liljeberg finished over par with a 72, 75 and 78, respectively.
Arkansas finished 2-over par and sat in sixth place.
Round 2
The Hogs enjoyed more favorable conditions after the early round, which allowed lower scoring across the field.
Liljeberg and Marin both shot 69s, with Liljeberg making an eagle on the 336-yard par-4 12th hole. Blonien, who was even with a pair of birdies and a pair of bogeys headed into her last two holes, finished strong with a 4 on the par-5 ninth to get under par.
Brentcheneff was 1-under for the second round going into her final six holes, but bogeyed Nos. 4, 7 and 8 and fell to 1-under for the event. Sathish’s score of 78 was dropped.
After 36 holes, Arkansas was tied for third with Tennessee at 1-under. Marin was T7 at 2-under and Brentcheneff was T13 at 1-under.
Round 3
The Hogs started the final round on Tuesday morning with a shotgun start over holes 3-6 and experienced another slow start, shooting 4-over through their first 5-7 holes.
Brentcheneff once again led the way the entire round with five birdies and a bogey, and finished one shot off the leader, Jessica Guiser from Florida. Marin shot a 71 while Blonien, Liljeberg and Sathish each carded a 73. That trio combined for five of the eight birdies to close the round.
Arkansas finished strong to get back to 1-under par with eight birdies over its final six holes.
The Gators won the event at 16-under, followed by Tennessee (-6) and Baylor (-5).
