
Women’s Tennis Falls in First Round at SEC Tournament
AUBURN, Ala. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (5-18, 2-13) dropped its match to No. 40 Kentucky (14-12, 5-10), falling 4-1 in the first round of the SEC Tournament on Wednesday morning at Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The Razorbacks took the early advantage after a win on court three, as Jimena Gomez and Katarina Pavlechova defeated Ellie Myers and Julia Zhu, 6-1. The Wildcats responded with Zoe Hammond and Asuncion Jadue obtaining a 6-4 victory against Anet Koskel and Grace O’Donnell at the No. 2 position. The doubles point came down to court one as No. 32 Ellie Eades and Lizzy Stevens clinched the point for Kentucky after a 7-5 win over No. 42 Olga Beinzobas and Carolina Gomez.
The Wildcats carried their momentum into singles play, winning the first set on four courts. At the No. 4 position, Tess Bucher grabbed a straight-set victory against Koskel, while Pavlechova fell to Jadue on court five to give Kentucky the 3-0 lead.
No. 77 C. Gomez secured the only point of the match for the Hogs after a 6-4, 7-5 win over No. 39 Hammond at the No. 1 position. With the victory, C. Gomez collected her fifth ranked win this spring and seventh overall. The Wildcats clinched the match on court two following a 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 victory from No. 91 Zhu against Bienzobas.
