Women’s Tennis Heads West for a Pair of Matches

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas women’s tennis team (3-2) resumes dual match play when it heads west to Las Vegas to face UNLV Feb. 7 and Virginia Tech Feb. 8. First serve for both matches is set for noon CT at the Frank and Vicki Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Razorbacks are coming off a pair of rod matches last weekend, splitting matches against No.16 Oklahoma State and Wichita State.

Arkansas came out strong but could not close out sets, as Oklahoma State posted opening-set victories in five of the six courts along with claiming the doubles point. Kelly Keller was the lone Razorback victory against the Cowgirls with a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) victory in the No. 5 position.

After dropping the match at No. 16 OSU, the Hogs bounced back picking up their second road win of the season against Wichita State, 4-0, on Sunday. The Hogs claimed the doubles point, and Arkansas’ Laura Rijkers, Jackie Carr and Martina Zerulo all posted wins in their respective opening sets, leading Arkansas to victory.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Friday’s match will be the second meeting in series history against UNLV since 2017 with the Rebels holding a 1-0 edge over the Hogs. The UNLV women’s tennis team completed its opening 2020 season gauntlet of four straight road matches by falling 4-0 to No. 14 Arizona State last Sunday at the Whiteman Tennis Center.

Arkansas last met Virginia Tech in 1999 when the Razorbacks picked up an 8-0 victory over 44th-ranked Virginia Tech. The Hokies swept a doubleheader at home last Sunday, coming out on top against Winthrop, 5-2, and James Madison, 4-3
