Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Season in North Little Rock

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team kicks off the spring season with three dual matches in North Little Rock at the Burns Park Tennis Center. The Razorbacks will face Central Arkansas and Kansas City in a doubleheader on Saturday, January 22 starting at 1 p.m. CT and Austin-Peay on Sunday, January 23 at 9 a.m. CT.

“We are all so excited to start the season this weekend. The girls have been working hard to get ready for the opportunities ahead of us,” said Head Coach Sanchez-Quintanar. “I can’t wait to see what this team is made of when put in uncomfortable situations and how they show up during matches. Go Hogs!”

Arkansas begins the weekend competing against Central Arkansas for the first time since 2011 in a dual match where the Razorbacks came out on top, 5-2. The Bears are coming off a tough 0-7 loss to Memphis to open up their spring season. At the UCA Invite in the fall, sophomore Morgan Cross’ straight-set win over Central Arkansas’ Fuka Nonoyama and sophomore Lenka Stara’s defeat over Jaeun Lee from Central Arkansas led the two to finish at the top of their singles flights. The doubles duo of Tatum Rice and Morgan Cross came out on top as well in a dominant 6-2 win over Central Arkansas’ Xin/Nonoyama and finished the fall with a 10-3 record.

The Razorbacks will face both Kansas City and Austin-Peay for the first time in a dual match.

Saturday’s matches kick off seven straight away matches for the Razorbacks before returning to open the spring season at home, hosting Wichita State and Arkansas State in a doubleheader on Saturday, February 19 starting at 9 a.m. CT.
