Women's Tennis Returns Home for Doubleheader Against Tulsa, Missouri State
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (3-3) opens its six-match homestand with a doubleheader against Tulsa (5-4) and Missouri State (3-3) on Friday, February 16 at Billingsley Tennis Center.
The Razorbacks dropped two matches this past weekend, falling 4-0 to Grand Canyon and then-No. 24 Arizona State on the road. In the first match, the tandem of Morgan Cross and Anet Koskel cruised to a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position for the Hogs in addition to Lenka Stara and Grace O’Donnell earning a 6-4 victory over Arizona State’s Morlet/Svetac. Cross leads the team with five doubles wins on the season while Stara and Kelly Keller lead the squad with two singles wins each.
The Golden Hurricane has started the season 5-4 and are coming off a 4-3 loss to Tulane last Friday. Tulsa has picked up wins over Omaha, Louisiana Tech, Wyoming, Oral Roberts, and Central Arkansas. The Golden Hurricane are led by junior Maria Berlanga, who has posted a 7-2 record in singles play on court one this year while senior Oleksandra Nahurska has claimed four victories at the No. 2 position. The singles lineup also features juniors Lily Hutchings and Ana Naranjo Martinez, who have both secured five wins this season on courts three and four, respectively. The duos of Berlanga/Hutchings and Martinez/Tayla Wilmot have each achieved a 7-2 record in doubles play for Tulsa.
The Bears are off to a 3-3 start this spring and have earned victories over Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, and Kansas City. Junior Sandra Lukacova leads Missouri State with four singles wins while seniors Cristina Flaquer and Mary Houston head the lineup with two singles victories each. The tandems of Houston/Lukacova and Juliette Robinson/Tuana Gunal have each posted a 3-2 record and lead the Bears in doubles wins.
