Women's Tennis Set for Pair of Road Matches

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  – The No. 46 Arkansas women’s tennis team will hit the road this weekend for a pair of matches starting on Friday at 5 p.m. with No. 11 Oklahoma State before a Sunday showdown at Wichita State beginning at 11 a.m.

The Razorbacks head into the weekend with a record of 2-1 after falling to No. 6 Pepperdine, 4-1, in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Championship.

In doubles action, Martina Zerulo and Jackie Carr got Arkansas on the board against the Waves with a 6-3 win against Anatasia Iamachkin and Astrid Olsen. The win evened the teams at 1-1, leaving the doubles point to be won by the 34th-ranked pair of Lauren Alter and Tatum Rice. Alter and Rice trailed 3-1 midway through the set but rallied for a 6-4 win at the No.1 spot to claim the doubles point for the Razorbacks. Arkansas battled in singles action but eventually fell 4-1.

 ABOUT THE OPPONENTS

Friday’s match will be the 20th meeting in series history against Oklahoma State with the Cowgirls holding a 15-4 advantage over the Hogs. The teams met in 2019 and Arkansas claimed a 4-3 win on the Hill. Oklahoma State is 5-1 this season with its lone loss coming at the ITA Kickoff Weekend against No. 25 Ohio State, 4-3.

The Razorbacks own a 21-2 advantage over the Shockers in the all-time series. Wichita State fell to the 19th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kan. on Saturday, 6-1, leaving them with a 1-2 record on the season.
