Yariel Soto Torrado leads Razorback crew in Mt. SAC decathlon
WALNUT, Calif. – First day action at the 63 Mt. SAC Relays included a pair of decathlon competitions with a pair of Razorbacks in each division.
The pair of Razorbacks competing in the elite division are Yariel Soto Torrado and Daniel Spejcher, who are currently in seventh and 11th place with scores of 4,164 and 3,887 points.
Torrado started with a 10.69 in the 100m (931 points), just missing his PR of 10.67, had an outdoor career best 24-10.5 (7.58) long jump (955), and a career best 45-3.5 (13.80) shot put (716). A 6-1.25 (1.86) high jump (679) followed, and he capped the day with a 48.55 in the 400m (883).
Spejcher opened with an 11.06 in the 100m (847), then had a 22-7.75 (6.89) long jump (788), followed by a 47-2.5 (14.39) shot put (752), and 6-1.25 (1.86) high jump (679). The first day finished with a 49.87 in the 400m (821).
Leading the Elite division through five events in Georgia’s Kyle Garland with 4,507 points. Following are Harrison Williams (4,164) and Kendrick Thompson (4,345).
The College/Open division first day leader is Will Daniels with 4,107 points while the top collegian is Washington’s Jami Schlueter at 3,901 points.
A score of 3,826 has Razorback Marcus Weaver in fifth place while a 3,785 tally for teammate Noah Swaby has him in seventh place.
Weaver’s marks included 11.49 in the 100 (755 points), 22-0.75 (6.72) in the long jump (748), 46-4.25 (14.13) in the shot put (736), led the high jump with an outdoor career best 6-9.5 (2.07) effort for 868 points to match his indoor best, and capped the day with a 52.13 in the 400m (719).
Swaby’s day started with an 11.39 in the 100 (776), 22-4.5 (6.82) in the long jump (771), the leading shot put mark of 49-6.25 (15.09) for 795 points, a high jump of 6-1.25 (1.86) for 679 points, and finished with a 51.11 in the 400m (764).
Day two of the decathlon begins with the 110m hurdles, the College/Open division starting at Noon (CT) while the Elite division starting at 1 p.m. (CT).
