Arkansas Advances to NCAA Championship

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 20 Arkansas Women’s Golf secured its spot in the 2022 NCAA Championship on Wednesday by shooting 14-over (298) on the University of Michigan Golf Course to finish in a tie for third with host Michigan to advance out of the Ann Arbor NCAA Regional.

The four teams from the Ann Arbor Regional moving on with the Razorbacks are Regional champion No. 5 San Jose State, No. 8 Virginia and the No. 18 Wolverines.

The Razorbacks are advancing for the 12th time overall and will compete in their 11th NCAA Championship, the last coming in 2019 when the Hogs finished tied for fifth on their home course – The Blessings. The Hogs’ top three finish in Ann Arbor is the third at a Regional in program history.

Ela Anacona recorded her highest ever finish and her second career top-10, securing a share of fifth place in the Regional. The junior shot a two-over 73 in the final round to lead to her best tournament performance of the year, shooting a 215 (69-72-73) over the three rounds. Anacona’s top 10 finish marks the 12th time a Razorback has finished in the top 10 at a Regional.

Junior Julia Gregg helped keep the Hogs steady, shooting even par on the back 9 to lead to a three-over 74 in the final round and finish in 15th place – her fifth top-20 finish this year. Sophomore Miriam Ayora also had a top-20 finish, earning a share of 19th place. Ayora played the front 9 at four-over and slid to six-over after a double bogey on No. 11 but rebounded to close out the round one-under over the final seven holes for a 76.

Kajal Mistry finished tied for 32nd place after overcoming a shaky start to her day. After a double bogey on No. 2, she bounced back to finish the front 9 three-over and gained a stroke with a birdie on No. 11 before a bogey-bogey finish led to a 75. Freshman Ffion Tyan finished tied for 43rd after shooting 79 on Wednesday.

The 2022 NCAA Championships will feature the top four teams and two individuals (not on an advancing team) from each regional. The tournament will be played May 20-25 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, hosted by Arizona State and The Thunderbirds. The final three days of the championships will be televised live by the GOLF Channel.
