Four Razorbacks Finish in Top 6 at Latin America Amateur Championship

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Four Razorbacks – two freshmen and two former golfers – finished among the top six at the 2025 Latin America Amateur Championship.

Freshman Gerardo Gomez was 11-under over 36 holes on the final day to finish in a tie for third at -14 (72-69-65-68), two shots off the winning score. Former Razorback Segundo Oliva Pinto also tied for third at -14 (68-71-65-70). Freshman Erich Fortlage tied for sixth at -13 (71-66-69-69). Former Razorback Mateo Pulcini tied Fortlage for sixth (67-72-66-70).

In the 11th year of the event, Razorbacks have populated the top 10 at the LAAC 10 of the 11 including champions Alvaro Ortiz in 2019 and Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira in 2023.

Gomez, 2024 Mexico Amateur champion, was playing his first LAAC. On Saturday, he fired a 7-under 75 with eight birdies to get into contention. In the final round Saturday afternoon, Gomez rose to second thanks to an eagle on the par-5 13th. He dropped a shot on 14 to finish with a 4-under 68 and 14-under for the championship, two strokes off the lead.

Oliva Pinto made a push on the final day, carding a 7-under 65 in the morning and a 2-under 70 in the final round, before finishing tied for third at 14-under. In his career at the LAAC, Oliva Pinto has finished T12 (2022), T15 (2023) and T8 (2024).

Fortlage was second after 36 holes. He had a pair of 69’s on Saturday with a total of eight birdies and a two bogeys. He finished T12 in 2023 and T15 in 2024.

Pulcini, who tied for ninth at the 2023 LAAC, was in the top 10 all four rounds. In round three Saturday morning, Pulcini shot a bogey-free 6-under 66 with an eagle of the pr-4 15. In the final round Saturday afternoon, Pulcini closed his round with birdies on 10, 13, 145, 15 and 18 to finish tied for sixth.
