Hogs Jump One Spot in Second Round of SEC Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Arkansas women’s golf team braced through difficult playing conditions in the second round of the SEC Championship to move up one spot in the standings. Shooting 24-over par on a day in which the best a team shot was 6-over par, Arkansas is in 13th place with a 42-over 618 (306-312) through two rounds. Teeing off in downpour rain and 20-mile per hour winds made for a difficult playing environment at Greystone Golf and Country Club on Thursday.

Looking for some big moves on day three to be one of eight teams to move on to match play, the Hogs are 12 strokes behind 12th-place Tennessee and 19 behind eighth-place Florida.

Julia Gregg showed her veteran maturity throughout day two of the course. After two bogeys and a double bogey to begin the day and teeing off from hole 10, Gregg closed out the back nine with two birdies and four pars. Going into the front nine where she found difficulties yesterday, Gregg birdied hole one and got over a stumbling block on hole two by shooting pars in the final seven holes. She finished the day with a 76 and is now tied for 51st with an 11-over 155 (79-76).

Kajal Mistry tallied two birdies and nine pars in round two to finish with a 77. Although she had seven bogeys, that was the most damage she made on a day where several scorecards saw blue and black on a myriad of holes. Mistry jumped 10 spots and is in a tie for 37th with a 9-over 153 (76-77) through two rounds.

Miriam Ayora is in a tie with Mistry for 37th with a 9-over 153 (75-78) going into the final round of stroke play. Ayora shot a 78 on Thursday, but recovered from a difficult back nine, in which she started the day with two double bogeys and four bogeys. In her final 10 holes, Ayora tallied three birdies, six pars and just one bogey. She birdied the third hole, one in which she eagled yesterday, and holds the third best par 5s average with 4.75 among the field of 68.

Reagan Zibilski shot an 81 in the second round and her lone birdie on the day came when she needed it the most on the ninth hole. Zibilski had eight bogeys and one double bogey in the second round. She is in a tie for 65th place with a 16-over 160 (79-81). Meghan Royal finished the second round with an 83. She had a birdie on the third hole but eight bogeys and a quadruple bogey on hole two, a hole several golfers found trouble with on Thursday, as several balls fell in the water. Royal is in a tie for 61st with a 15-over 159 (76-83).
