Men’s Tennis Kickoff Spring in San Diego

SAN DIEGO – The Arkansas men’s tennis team will open the spring season with two dual matches against San Diego State and UC San Diego on Friday, January 13. The Razorbacks will face the Aztecs at 12 p.m. CT at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club then take on the Tritons at 6:30 p.m. CT at the Northview Tennis Courts.

The Razorbacks saw a successful fall season, competing in multiple tournaments. In doubles, returner Adrien Burdet and transfer Alan Sau Franco led the team with five wins, made the finals in the ITA Central Regional Championships and earned their spot in the ITA National Fall Championships. Burdet also led the Razorbacks with five singles wins through the fall.

San Diego State is coming off of a 8-12 season, going 3-3 in Mountain West play. The Aztecs ended their season in the Mountain West Tournament, falling 1-4 to the No. 1 seed Nevada in the semifinals. Junior Johannes Seeman is one of two returners leading the team with nine singles victories, including a ranked win over No. 46 Gustaf Strom of Arizona. In doubles, Seeman partnered with Penn State transfer, Chikaya Sato to make the finals in the Aztecs’ final tournament of the fall.

UC San Diego went 4-22 record last spring, with a 1-5 record in Big West conference play. The Tritons are led by seniors Phillip Lan and Daniel Traxler who each have two singles wins this fall. In doubles, Lan partnered with Pelayo Rodriguez for one win in the fall after going 8-3 together last spring at the No. 3 spot.
