Razorbacks Swept by Hurricanes on Thursday Night
Despite leading in every set, the Miami Hurricanes proved too much for the No. 25 Razorbacks as they were swept on Thursday night, their second loss of the season.
Romani Thurman had a team-high 11 kills on the night and posted three blocks. Senior setter Hannah Hogue paced the offense with 26 assists and 10 digs for a double-double, her seventh in 10 matches this season.
Senior libero Courtney Jackson registered a team-high 12 digs in the backrow for the Hogs, and senior middle blocker Zoi Evans bolstered the defense with four blocks.
Set 1
The two teams traded points early, but Arkansas began to settle in and used a four-point run with two kills from Thurman and one from Olivia Ruy for a 6-4 advantage. The Hurricanes kept steady and managed to keep the deficit low, but Arkansas led 15-13 at the media break. Miami quickly caught up and tied the score seven times shortly after, and then took the lead off a kill and a block at 23-21. Arkansas got two more points, but ran out of time as a Hurricane kill closed the set 25-23 in favor of the home team.
Set 2
Again, the Razorbacks began the set with the lead and held it through the midway point until the Hurricanes began to find a rhythm and shift the momentum their way. Miami went on a 7-0 run and went up 17-10, putting the Hogs into a serious hole. After a timeout, Arkansas strung together four straight, including a service ace from Kylie Weeks, and cut the deficit to 19-16. It was briefly close, but two Hurricanes tallies took it to set point. The Hogs got one more from a service error, but a final Miami kill sealed the set 25-20.
Set 3
A 5-1 run put Arkansas in a good spot with a 7-4 lead in the third set, but Miami just wouldn’t let up and scored five straight to trade the three-point lead. The Hogs kept chipping but couldn’t generate any lasting runs, facing a deficit of as many as five points. With the Hurricanes just four points away from victory, Arkansas responded with five unanswered, which made it 21-20 and prompted a Miami timeout. The Hurricanes got the next two and despite the Hogs spoiling match point twice, a final kill from the Canes made it 25-23 for the sweep.
