Rijo Named to SEC Community Service Team
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.– Arkansas senior INF Atalyia Rijo has been selected to the 2026 SEC Community Service Team, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 22 league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
Rijo has been a leader in the community in Northwest Arkansas during her four seasons as a Razorback. She led Arkansas in community service hours, volunteering at the local animal shelter, the American Red Cross, and the 7 Hills Homeless Shelter. Rijo has also been a key contributor to the annual Shop with the Razorbacks campaign, an event in which Arkansas student-athletes shop for local youth in need during the Holiday season. As a result of her efforts during the Shop with the Razorbacks event, she helped over 30 families provide gifts during the Holiday Season. In addition to her community service events, Rijo was the Razorbacks’ female representative and one of 31 SEC student-athletes to participate in the 2024 SEC Career Tour, which provided exposure to SEC student-athletes seeking career opportunities in various fields. The program allows student-athletes to connect with human resources recruiters, submit resumes for jobs, and gain valuable knowledge of professional branding.
This season, the Horseheads, N.Y., product has started all 51 games at shortstop, posting a .333 batting average with 40 hits, 10 doubles, seven homers, and 38 RBI while drawing 26 walks and scoring 30 runs. Rijo has posted a .468 on-base percentage with 11 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games. Defensively, she has recorded a .955 fielding percentage at shortstop with 54 putouts and 96 assists.
Arkansas finished the 2026 regular season with a 41-10 record and 15-9 mark in SEC play, with 21 wins coming by run-rule. The Razorbacks are coming off a 2-1 series win at No. 5/7 Texas last weekend, taking the first two games 2-0 and 4-3 before falling 4-1 in the series finale. Rijo and Arkansas will open play at the 2026 SEC Tournament in Lexington, Ky., on Wednesday, May 6, at 1 p.m. The Hogs will face the winner of the Mississippi State/Kentucky matchup, which takes place on Tuesday, May 5. The Razorbacks’ first game will be televised on SEC Network with Kevin Brown (PxP) and Amanda Scarborough (Analyst) on the call.
