Taylor Signs Schutte

FAYETTEVILLE – Arizona native Abbey Schutte has signed with the Arkansas women’s golf team, as announced by head coach Shauna Taylor on Monday. Schutte has enjoyed a successful amateur career and is ranked No. 69 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

“Abbey comes from a rich tradition of golf, as her dad was a NCAA National Champion (Warren Schutte was the 1991 NCAA Champion Individual Medalist), as well as a member of the PGA tour,” said Taylor. “The apple did not fall far from the tree with regards to her golf talent and her love for the game. Abbey is an amazing young woman that encompasses all that we look for in the recruiting process. She loves to win, she has great length, her golf IQ grows every year with experience and she will bring a light to our team that will be contagious.”

Schutte won the Fisher-Bryan Invitational, a tournament as a part of the PING Junior Masters Series. In that tournament, Schutte finished 4-under par (72-66), which was three shots clear of second place. Schutte has also tallied third place in the Justin Thomas Junior Championship, Accenture Northwest Arkansas Junior Championship and Ping Heather Farr Classic.

“Abbey’s commitment story is a must tell to shed light on who she is,” added Taylor. “She is a bit of a magician and pulled a magic card trick on me to tell me she wanted to be a Razorback. I pulled my card from the deck, placed it back in, she shuffled them up and went through her process to identify my card. Next thing I know, she hands me the Joker card and, on that card, it said, ‘I can’t wait to be a Razorback.’ This story tells a lot about Abbey’s personality, and it will be fun to have her grow and impact our goals on and off the golf course.”

Schutte is a three-time Junior Golf Association of Arizona Player of the Year and notes her favorite golf experience is qualifying for and playing in the USGA Women’s Amateur Championship this past summer in Chambers Bay, Washington.

Schutte is the daughter of Joan and Warren Schutte and has a brother named Hayden. She attends Connections Academy in Goodyear, Arizona, the same school as her new teammate Kendall Todd. Schutte plans to major in business.

“I am very excited about our 2023 signing class,” said Taylor. “Mike [Adams] and I love the process of recruiting and getting to know our future Razorbacks by traveling the world to find the best family members. This once again has been an incredible class and we can’t wait to share our future successes with both Abbey and Maria [José Marin].”
