While the Razorbacks (and six of the top seven in the standings) finished their second round Saturday, the full field still has a few holes to play early Sunday to officially complete the round.
Arkansas started the first round well but finished the first 18 with a 10-over-par 298 to stand in sixth place. Later Saturday, the Hogs fell to as low as ninth early in the second round. However, Arkansas turned the corner and produced the best round of the afternoon session by four strokes – a 5-over-par 293 – to climb four spots to second.
Host and 23rd-ranked Texas A&M leads the 12-team field with a 36-hole score of 582 (+6). Arkansas, at +15, holds a three-stroke lead over #7 Texas Tech (+18) after the Red Raiders shot 18-over in round two. Houston and #32 New Mexico are tied for fourth at +21.
Segundo Oliva Pinto and Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira led the charge for the Razorbacks in round two. The duo is tied for sixth (+2) and were the only players in to break par in the afternoon session.
Oliva Pinto turned in a 5-over-par 77 in the first round and was in 36th place. However, the senior carded a 3-under-par 69, and rocketed 30 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for sixth (77-69=146). He was even par at the turn after a double bogey on the ninth hole. However, he opened the back nine with a birdie and added two more birdies for a 69.
Fernandez de Oliveira was in 24th place after an opening-round 75. In round two, he had 16 pars and two bridies before suffering a bogey on the final hole. His 1-under-par 71 not only marked the second-best score of the afternoon behind Oliva Pinto but allowed the junior to climb 18 spots into a tie for sixth (75-71=146).
Luke Long is currently tied for 17th (72-78=150), Julian Perico is tied for 34th (79-75=154) and Wil Gibson is tied for 39th (74-81=155). Enrique Dimayuga, playing as an individual, is tied for 48th (75-82=157).
