#5 Razorbacks Open Spring Season in Arizona

FAYETTEVILLE – Coming off an impressive fall campaign, the fifth-ranked Arkansas men’s golf program will begin the spring portion of its schedule Jan. 24-25 at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz., at the Tucson Country Club.

In four events last fall, Arkansas won two, was runner-up once and placed third. Individually, Luke Long won the Blessings Intercollegiate and Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira had three top-3 finishes, including his first collegiate win coming at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup.

The event, scheduled for 36 holes Monday and 18 Tuesday, is not only the season opener, but it will have two additional storylines as well.

First, four Razorbacks (Fernandez de Oliveira, Julian Perico, Segundo Oliva Pinto and Juan Camilo Vesga) are coming off four days in the Dominican Republic at the Latin American Amateur Championship. The group played its final round Sunday, flies to Arizona Sunday night, arrives in Tucson at 2 am early Monday and plays 36 holes later Monday.

Second, Enrique Dimayuga will make his debut in a Razorback uniform. The junior with two-and-a-half years of eligibility remaining sat out last fall in his native England. He played his first two seasons at Florida Atlantic, earning first team All-Conference USA honors, before deciding to transfer.
