#8 Razorbacks Are #2 Seed at NCAA Austin Regional
FAYETTEVILLE – The 8th-ranked Arkansas men’s golf program will be the #2 seed at the NCAA Austin Regional, played May 13-15 at the University of Texas Golf Club and Academy (par 71), it was announced today by the NCAA on GOLF Channel.
Arkansas is playing in its 30th NCAA Regional as a team and has been represented in 34 of the 35 NCAA Regionals held since its inception in 1989, including four times when just an individual qualified. (Note, the only time Arkansas was not represented in a Regional was 2002.) The Razorbacks will be playing in their 16th straight NCAA Regional.
The #1 seed in the Regional is Tennessee, ranked #5 nationally, while host Texas is the #3 seed. The full 14-team field (listed by seed with their national rank) includes #5 Tennessee, #8 Arkansas, #13 Texas, #20 Georgia, #29 Wake Forest, #32 Notre Dame, #41 UNC Greensboro, #44 Brigham Young, #60 San Jose State, Grand Canyon, Arkansas State and Kansas City.
The top five teams from each of the six NCAA Regionals – as well as the highest placing individual not on an advancing team – will go on to compete for the NCAA Championships, May 24-29 in Carlsbad, Calif., at Omni La Costa – Champions Course.
The Razorbacks won the 1991 NCAA Central Regional and have seven runner-up finishes to their credit, including twice over the last three years.
Arkansas has advanced from a Regional to the NCAA Championship 20 times, including each of the last three years, as well as four additional times when just an individual advanced. In fact, Arkansas is one of 13 teams to advance to the NCAA Championship in each of the last three years and one of just nine that finished among the NCAA top 20 each year.
The Razorbacks, playing one of the nation’s toughest schedules, have played in 10 events this season and have nine top-four finishes, including five among the top three with two wins. The Hog’s 282.17 season scoring average – with 21 of 29 rounds under par as a team – is on pace to shatter the school’s single-season scoring average of 284.40. Also, Jacob Skov Olesen has a season scoring average of 69.83 and is on pace to break Julian Perico’s record of 70.37. John Driscoll III has a scoring average of 70.52 and is on pace to be the program’s third-best season average.
