Abdoul Sy-Savane equals PR to win 60m hurdles by thin margin
FAYETTEVILLE – A near identical finish had the Razorback hurdle duo of Abdoul Sy-Savane and Karamoko Sacko finishing first and second with a meet record in the 60m hurdles at 7.68 during the Wooo Pig Classic held at the Randal Tyson Track Center on Saturday.
Sy-Savane matched his career best of 7.68 that ranks No. 9 on the UA all-time list and he edged Sacko by 0.004 of second (7.675 to 7.679) for the victory. In the prelims, Sacko had an edge of 7.84 to 7.88 as they raced in separate heats.
The previous meet record of 7.71 was set by LSU’s Damion Thomas in 2021 during the debut of the Wooo Pig Classic.
Jerome Campbell, who sports a hurdle PR of 7.49, raced over 60m and set a career best of 6.64 in the prelims. That mark is equal No. 7 on the UA all-time list. Tevijon Williams also delivered a then PR in the prelims with a 6.74.
In the 60m final, Williams placed fourth in a career best of 6.73 while Campbell suffered a false start.
A U.S. leading pole vault was delivered by professional KC Lightfoot, the American outdoor record holder at 19-11 (6.07), who won the competition with a meet record clearance of 19-4.75 (5.91) on his third attempt. Lightfoot shared the U.S. indoor lead coming into the meet at 19-4.25 (5.90) with Zach Bradford. The current world leader in 2026 is 19-5.5 (5.93) by Emmanouil Karalis of Greece.
Lightfoot, who holds the Tyson Center record of 19-5.5 from winning the 2021 NCAA Indoor title while at Baylor, missed three attempts at 19-7.75 (5.99) which is just a half inch off his indoor best of 19-8.25 (6.00).
A 45.80 in the 400m produced a victory for Arkansas alum TJ Tomlyanovich, who still has outdoor eligibility for the Razorbacks. Jack Williams finished second in the mile with a 4:08.06 and Eli Seavey placed fifth in 4:15.65.
In the 4 x 400m relay an Arkansas squad generated a time of 3:05.50, but was disqualified for a lane violation. A second Razorback crew claimed the win in 3:08.65 over a 3:09.01 for Northwestern State.
The winning UA squad included Jamarion Stubbs (47.76), Zyaire Nuriddin (46.88), Sy-Savane (46.89), and Jelani Watkins (47.12). The other foursome had Zander Cruzan (47.38), Jordan Pierre (46.69), Dapriest Hogans (46.30), and Devyn Wright (45.13).
