Alums claim a trio of medals at USATF Championships

EUGENE – A trio of Arkansas alums earned medals on the second day of the USATF Championships at Hayward Field. The medal haul included gold for Hunter Woodhall, silver for Taliyah Brooks, and bronze for Jarrion Lawson.

Woodhall won the T62 100m in 10.76 (0.9 wind) and will also race at 400m this weekend. Jarryd Wallace (10.96) and Jonathan Gore (11.03) finished second and third as T64 competitors while Blake Leeper (11.48) in fifth was the next T62 entry.

Brooks produced a career best score of 6,526 points as runner-up in the heptathlon to Anna Hall’s winning score of 6,899 points. Brooks performance ranks No. 10 on the U.S. all-time list and her score bettered the standard for the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

The second day opened with Brooks leading the long jump with a wind-aided 21-3.5 (6.54) for 1,020 points. A javelin toss of 141-11 (43.27) set a PR for Brooks and earned 730 points. She finished off the heptathlon with a 2:16.08 in the 800m for 878 points.

Lawson’s leap of 26-7.75 (8.12) in the second round was the early long jump leader. Isaac Grimes won the event with a mark of 26-9 (8.15) while Will Williams finished second with a distance of 26-8.5 (8.14). Razorback Henry Kiner placed 14th with a mark of 25-0w (7.62).

Marcus Weaver moved from 10th place to fifth place during the second day of the decathlon and produced a score of 7,831 points.

Opening the second day with the 110m hurdles, Weaver set a PR of 14.68 for 889 points. A discus toss of 146-2 (44.56) added 753 points, moving Weaver into seventh place. A clearance of 14-1.25 (4.30) picked up 702 points and had Weaver in sixth place.

A javelin throw of 211-6 (64.46) collected 805 points and moved Weaver into fifth place. He maintained that position with a 4:33.30 in the 1,500m for 723 points.

In 400m prelim races, a crew of three Razorbacks advanced to the women’s final while Chris Bailey reached the men’s final.

Isabella Whittaker won her heat in 50.07, which was second best overall. Britton Wilson finished second to Whittaker with a 50.25 that ranked third best. Alexis Holmes, who trains in Fayetteville, was third in 50.42 behind the pair of Razorbacks.

Rosey Effiong claimed the final spot in the final with a 51.01 that placed her ninth overall as she finished third in her heat. Paris Peoples ran 51.27, which ranked 12th overall.

Bailey posted a time of 44.81 as runner-up in his heat and was seventh overall. Jonah Vigil set a career best of 45.84 to rank 15th overall while James Milholen ran 47.71.

The semifinals of the 100m had Jada Mowatt placing 14th overall with an 11.23. In the men’s race Jordan Anthony ran 10.13 to place fourth in his heat and 11th overall. Incoming Razorback Dapriest Hogans finished sixth in the same heat and was 17th overall.
