Americas record for Woodhall in sweep of 100m & 400m titles

MIRAMAR, Florida – Arkansas alum Hunter Woodhall won a pair of T62 titles Saturday at race distances of 100m and 400m during the third day of the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials at the Ansin Sports Complex.

Woodhall established a 400m Americas record of 46.09 early Saturday morning and then produced a wind-aided 10.78 (+3.5 wind) victory in the 100m in the afernoon.

The pair of victories qualify Woodhall for his third Paralympic Games. Previously, Woodhall earned 200m silver and 400m bronze in 2016, and added 400m bronze in Tokyo. Earlier this season, Woodhall collected a pair of World Championship silver medals in the 100m and 400m in Kobe, Japan.

The Paralympic Games in Paris will be held from August 28 to September 8.

In bettering the previous Americas record of 47.46, Woodhall finished the race within three-tenths of the world record 45.78 that was set by Johannes Floors of Germany in 2019. Runner-up in the 400m was Blake Leeper in 48.00 while Lucas Jundt finished third in 54.04.

In the 100m, Woodhall won by nearly a full second over runner-up Jundt (11.69) with Blair Cooper third (11.78). Floors also holds the world record in the T62 100m with a 10.54 from 2019.

Woodhall set the 100m Americas record with a time of 11.00 earlier this season in qualifying for the World Championships. He bettered that time with a 10.75 (1.6) in claiming the 100m Open race on Friday over a 10.78 for Korban Best and 11.07 by Jonathan Gore.
