Anthony Black Has Big Dreams
Anthony Black stands out in a crowd. The first thing you’ll notice about him is his hair.
But pay attention for any amount of time when Black is on the basketball court and something else stands out: elite skills, vision and talent. If things played out differently, Black—a great athlete and three-star wide receiver recruit—could’ve been running routes at Razorback Stadium. He certainly made the right choice. Black, a McDonald’s All-American and top-ranked point guard in the class, is a special talent on the hardwood.
Watch and listen to his story today in the latest episode of The Hog Pod: Face To Face as Bo Mattingly chats with Anthony Black and hears his story of coming to Fayetteville, why he chose basketball over football, and how he’s going to help lead Razorback men’s basketball to big things.
In the excerpt below, Anthony Black explains how he first started hearing about Arkansas basketball and what interested him about playing for Coach Eric Musselman.
Bo Mattingly: When you first started hearing about Arkansas, did it not feel like that big national program? You tell me what those other schools are that were in there are, but you say Gonzaga who had been in the Final Four lately.
Anthony Black: I always knew Arkansas was a good team and a good school. I just couldn’t picture myself here. It’s weird because I knew they were good. There were a couple of schools like that, where I said, “I just don’t see myself here.” But I kept looking at what Coach Muss had done in the past and I liked that. I like being coached. I’m glad I chose here.
Bo Mattingly: What’s it like?
Anthony Black: I mean, it’s good to have a coach with that type of energy. And practice is good because his energy lifts our level of play in practice. And he doesn’t let us slack off and have bad days. That’s how we get better everyday with a coach like that. In the game, he trusts us to play because of the work we’ve put in. He’s gonna rock with us and just let us play.
