Arkansas advances 4x100 relay, Gilbert in 110m hurdles at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas – Friday qualifying races had the Razorbacks qualifying its 4×100 relay and Tre’Bien Gilbert in the 110m hurdles for Saturday’s final day at the Texas Relays.

Arkansas advanced its 4×100 relay to the final by running a time of 39.51 with a foursome of Roman Turner, Connor Washington, Phillip Lemonious, and James Benson II. The Razorbacks were eight overall of the nine teams advancing after placing second in their heat behind a 39.24 for Texas Tech.

Florida produced the leading qualifying time of 38.58. Other schools in the final include Texas (38.87), TCU (39.09), Oklahoma (39.28), USC (39.30), LSU (39.44), and Houston (39.52).

Gilbert advanced in the 110m hurdles, winning his heat in 13.86 (-0.4 wind), with the fourth best time overall. Joel Bengtsson led the field with a 13.54 ahead of a 13.67 for LSU’s Eric Edwards, Jr.

Matthew Lewis-Banks (14.19) and Brevin Sims (14.24) both finished fourth in their respective heats, placing 17th and 21st overall among a field of 29 in the prelims. Cade Clark ran 10.71w (2.2) in the prelims of the 100m to place fourth in his heat.

Racing in the final of the sprint medley relay, the Razorbacks finished eighth with a time of 3:22.36 with a foursome of Washington, Brandon Battle, James Milholen, and Ethan Carney. Jalon Simpson’s lone mark among three javelin throws reached a distance of 177-0 to place 13th.
