Arkansas alums compete in USATF Indoor Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – The USATF Indoor Championships, being held in the Albuquerque Convention Center this weekend, will include seven Arkansas alums along with a couple of athletes who train in Fayetteville.

In Australia, Arkansas alum Katie Izzo is part of the United States team competing in the World Athletics Cross Country Championships. Coverage of the event will be available on Peacock starting at 10:20 p.m. on Friday with the women’s senior race starting at 12:30 a.m. (CT) Saturday.

Action in the USATF Indoor Championships began on Thursday with multi-events and race walk events. Competition for Arkansas alums begins Friday and concludes on Saturday.

Razorback alums competing include Austen Dalquist (1,500m & 3,000m), Hunter Woodhall (400m), Jada Baylark (60m), Krissy Gear (1,500m), Nikki Hiltz (1,500m), Taliyah Brooks (60m Hurdles), and Erich Sullins (weight throw). Athletes in the meet who train in Fayetteville include Tara Davis-Woodhall (long jump) and Donald Sullivan, Jr. (high jump).

Dalquist will be one of seven entrants in both the 1,500m and 3,000m races, which includes field sizes of 13 and 16, respectively. Dalquist has set career best times in the mile (3:57.18) and 3,000m (7:49.42) distances this indoor season.

Woodhall recently set a season best of 48.94 in Albuquerque. Advancement to a six-person 400m final will include heat winners from three prelim races plus the next three fastest times.

Baylark has raced in three meets at Arkansas this season and produced a season best of 7.23 in the 60m during the Tyson Invitational. Two prelim races for the field of 18 sprinters will advance the top three from each race plus the next two fastest times to the 60m final.

Gear and Hiltz race in the 1,500m field of 12 runners. Gear has set career best times over three different distances this indoor season with times of 2:02.95 (800m), 2:40.66 (1,000m), and 4:29.67 (mile). Hiltz set a PR of 4:05.59 in the 1,500m enroute to placing seventh in the Millrose Games mile (4:24.68) this past weekend.

A season best of 8.04 in the 60m hurdles is one of six events multi-event athlete Brooks has contested this indoor season. Two prelim heats in the hurdles will advance the top three in each race along with the next two fastest times to the final.

Sullins set a career best of 77-2 (23.52) in the weight throw this indoor season and competes among a field of 12 throwers. In a recent competition in Albuquerque, Sullins bettered a collegiate field with a mark of 75-9.25 (23.09).

Davis-Woodhall ranks fifth in the world this indoor season in the long jump with a best of 22-1.75 (6.75) that won the Tyson Invitational. Davis-Woodhall also competed in Albuquerque and produced a winning mark of 22-1.5 (6.73). The long jump field includes 12 entrants with the top eight advancing to the final three rounds.

Sullivan, competing in a field of nine high jumpers, recently placed second at Dr. Sander Invitational in New York and third in New Balance Indoor in Boston.
