Arkansas and Ole Miss Set for Weekend Series in Barnhill Arena
FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas volleyball team has its sights set on Ole Miss this weekend, as the Hogs (2-0) host the Rebels (0-2) for Arkansas’ first of two home-weekend series this fall.
The last time the Hogs competed was two weeks ago in their season opening series at Mississippi State. Arkansas battled back from back-to-back slow starts, trailing 1-0 early on Saturday (Oct. 17) and 2-0 on Sunday (Oct. 18). Both matches went to five sets, as the Razorbacks swept the weekend series against the Bulldogs in Starkville. It extended Arkansas’ decade-long win streak against State to 17 consecutive victories.
After setting a career-record in game one at State with 49 assists, junior Gracie Ryan turned around to beat her own record with 59 assists in the Hogs’ win the following day. She is currently ranked eighth in the NCAA for assists per set (10.80) and ranked second in the SEC behind Kentucky’s Madison Lilley.
Freshman, Taylor Head earned two starts on the weekend of her college-debut and went on to finish with two double-double performances. Head totaled 30 kills and 38 digs in Arkansas’ sweep of Mississippi State. Head is currently first among SEC freshmen in total kills (30) and second among for kills per set (3.00) behind Alabama’s Kendyl Reaugh. She ranks seventh among Division I freshmen for kills per set (3.00) and is first among SEC freshmen for digs per set (3.80), ranking sixth among Division I freshmen in the same category.
Arkansas and Ole Miss split the conference series in 2019, with each team winning their respective home match. It was in Barnhill in late November of last year that Arkansas rallied to take down Ole Miss, 3-2.
